BrickGeekz Review of Lego Modular set 10255 Assembly Square & More!

HEY BrickGeekz!
Another week and another blog - this time on the huge and beautiful Lego Modular set 10255 Assembly Square.

4002 pieces
35 cm high
34 internal bags over 6 bag numbers
1 huge manual
no stickers
9 minifigs

I am a huge modular fan, this revitalized my love for LEGO, brought me into the adult world of LEGO... and this set is just truly amazing - and strengthens this amazing line of sets.
I am lucky to be able to this review being able to base them on previous modular's right the way back 10 years to the first modular building Cafe corner and if you have seen cafe corner, though the birth of the modular's - the first in the line, it lacked any interior, so basically it has nothing inside non of the internal intricacies that make us love these sets but externally it still remains as one of the best looking sets and very distinctive. Okay, so 10 years later what has changed besides the obvious look of the buildings :

Well i can tell you this building is fantastic and its huge, it also celebrates 10 years of LEGOS' glorious modular line...

There are 12 sets in the modular line -

Cafe corner
Market street
Green grocer
Palace cinema
Brick Bank
Detectives office
Parisian resteraunt
Fire station
Town hall
Shpping emporium
Pet shop
and now Assembly square!

I love them all , all of them unique and perfect for anyone in their quest to produce a LEGO city.

So, Assembly Square

It is 4002 pieces and retails at
£179.99 in the uk

Hold on ill say that again 4002 pieces .. that put it up there in the top 10 biggest sets  and its about time a modular was in there!

Every second of this build was a pleasure - and its not for the faint hearted
quitters ... this set deserves top shelf space and needs to be complete... as you can see it is labelled with the expert tag  ... though it does have 34 internal bags over 6 bag numbers ... you are inundated with countless amounts of minute pieces that makes this amazing set!

It is the size of a normal modular and a half ... so a huge flat plate and a half over three stories high

35 cm
slightly smaller than the town hall

As the build progresses you can see the intricacies that make up this set the flowers in the flower shop, the pieces of pie in the coffee shop and the cake shop is in a league of its own!

Just look at these pictures

Front of coffee shop lines with seats and tables

 Inside coffee shop

outside flower shop  - look at the roses

Harder to take this photo of inside the flower shop ..

can see the flower bunches on the wall, the till etc ...

I have to say the first bags took a while but then i was zooming through, the cake shop is just epic, the windows made out of sliding door panels that clip into a 1 x 1 claw ... very fidgety but in the end we have a look of old .... Almost Dickensian looking - the warm feel of a Victorian bakery, and of course at the front of the window a huge cake all pieced together

 Front of bakery

Plastic Cakes and patisseries line the shelves

Huge cake in shop window

Okay,  so first floor done 4 hours of build time and 1500 photos in ... i can see the base structure ... the coffee shop the cake shop and flower shop are all formed. so many little details like the cherry pie on the shelf or the huge cake in the shop windows.. which i may add the hardest part of the build- starting to get a sense of this build now - and its beauty!

LEGO takes me away when i build, take photos, do animation nothing makes me think of nothing more than the job at had ... other than LEGO ... let me tell you 10255 set doesn't disappoint, it has enough entertainment level to keep you wanting to build more - when you're at the end of one bag ... dang so much left to do ... then oh there's the flower shop best carry on :p  But it isn't easy do not be misguided by the huge 300 page manual that comes with it , or the huge amounts of minute pieces ;),

So what next ? ahhh the second floor... could it be better than the first, which  had left me looking at this set thinking WOW ....

Still amazed - an not knowing whats coming next i was exsctaic to see a dentists waiting room , with a chair and some obligatory magazines

followed by a dentists surgery complete with chair sink and even a needle --- oh that dreaded needle

The chair is only a very small build but the sky blue colour LEGO have used is great  and it raised up and down!

The internal spaces seem to have gotten bigger in this set more space to move and take shots - talking of taking shots , another great room in this building is dedicated to a photography room - old style camera and white background - simply amazing so well thought out and put together - this is one of the many many reasons why Lego is superb and so well incorporated into 10255

Then on the second floor off as if it wasn't enough we have a music store

bland as it looks it was a nice feature, with a drum kit in the window, acoustic guitar, sax.... great!

Felt like the brunt of the build was definitely in the first 2 bags as the sets now is starting to winding off into a much more pleasant built...

Final floor, floor 3 - this set is more wide than high and is 14500 pieces more than the LEGO modular town hall!

In the top floor the build has not got any of its intricacies it stays strong through-out and the flat above presumably for the mother and baby - funnily i was piecing together the miniature train set.. it comes on 2 tables i didn't have a clue what it was meant to be until i put the tables together --- and again was like wow!

The sofa in the flat is retractable which too is another awesome feature, cooker, shelves with miniature toys .. toilet - oddly no shower ???

Out door terrace on the top floor ... with ladder that goes up  onto the roof

THEN my favorite of the upper roof, the simplistic - dance room, the piano is just awesome.

LEGO have done it again their designs getting better, harder to put  together, larger sets for us afols. This set is quite simply amazing , stunning - interface i dare say as far as modular buildings go this is one of the best ... so many details and its a long build no five minute and i am done - this set needs sorting out right from the off.. pleasurable and entertaining all the way though but lack of shower ???

The fountain at the front of the building

recap over some external photos

PROS =  just amazing, huge, long build , not easy (gets easier), so many intricacies which give you a warm feeling!

Cons = Very few , no shower in apartment, flower shop though cool not easy for photos, price tag!

VERDICT  : 9.7 out of 10

SIMPLY SUPERB ...

LEGO BATMAN MOVIE JOKER NOTORIOUS LOWRIDER 70906 + PENGUINS' ARTIC ROLLER 70911 REVIEW

Hey BrickGeekz,

It's been a week since our last blog - so it's now time for a new one and this time its going to be on the Lego Batman Movies sets 70906 The Joker Low Rider and Penguins Arctic roller  70911 ..

Ok where to start ?

FIRSTLY HERE IS A VIDEO OF OUR LIVE BUILD  FROM SAT 28TH JAN 3PM GMT

We  took a vote in the BrickGeekz Facebook group as i wondered what set you preferred and the results were surprising,  a lot of people preferred the arctic roller  .. for me it such a hard decision which is better Joker or penguin ?  both such awesome vehicles and strong characters, everyone know's who the Joker and Penguin are even non comic book fans. Which is a testament to the superiority of batman ;)

We will start with the awesomeness of the jokers low rider

And let me tell you its awesome

433 Pieces

3     x small instruction books
3     x internal bags
1    x small sticker sheet
3 x minifigs (harley - joker -batgirl)

I  think anyone who has seen the Batman movies from the Late 80's early 90's would mostly say they were just awesome .. Michael Keaton was a pretty Slick batman and his suit, it was the first time Batman looked like he meant business ... And to say Jack Nicholson was a good joker is an understatement -  as we all know The joker has no identity, but in the 89 Batman - they wrote him in as Jack Napier a Gangster who shot Bruce waynes parents - Straying away from the original Batman story lines ... No one cared it was spectacular and brought a new younger wave of Batman fans, Keeping the Dark knight ever present in modern culture..

And to Find out in the new Lego Batman Movie they have the Jokers low rider set 70906 , and is based on the old 80s Batman movie - I have to admit i was exited, Lego have done it again -

this set is Brilliant

First thing that stuck me when built was the size of the Vehicle - its Pretty long

24 cm infact - when i say 24 cm it seems so much bigger.

And as you can see its Just Pure class - and this is on appearance we haven't even talked about detail - which too is also good Lego have mixed printed tiles with stickers as usual which left me a little annoyed.. but i get it so hard getting them straight non the less still pretty cool

The zebra print seats are both funny and nostalgic

An looking at the back we can see the sound system and two button that eject the rockets through the boot.

I am a huge fan of the exterior of this car it looks awesome from the large gold rooster on the boonet, the horn that you build and  the small gold grills at the side this set will surely please older fans like me as well as newer fans
cant wait to see this car in action on Feb 10 2017 when the LEGO BATMAN movie is released!

Now underneath - as we know this is a low rider that uses lego mechanics to improvise hydraulic system - there are four individual sections to this part of the build and if you look at the live build i was thrown off a little by this as i tried to build them  in a way for stop motion video, honestly it frustrated me a little as i could and should have followed the instructions  - when we got back on track it all made sense

The four elastic bands clip adjacent to each other pulling the looser wheel mechanism tight making the wheels elevate

Another awesome feature to make this set one of the best smaller Batman, joker vehicles - i was a big fan of the joker seam roller, the jokers suit and hat combo was awesome, but to be honest didn't have the impact, build quality and design of this set well worth the purchase and surely going to be incorporated in the Lego Batman movie -  so we can all go wow I have that set

2 awesome figures in this pack and a very generic looking but transformed Batgirl , Lego have merged a belt that fits into their new batman minfigs  - think it looks great, though i have to say this is one of the best Harley figures ever released its simple awesome

The baseball bat is excellent with the hearts on it printed front and back so much detail such a small fig just great

The joker has an awesome suit and tattooed cards symbols on his arm again making this set another must have

Batgirl appears quite a few times in recent Batman sets and now in Lego Movie Batman sets , though they have changed her appearance, her colours are awesome and she now has a pony tail you can fit into her helmet , i just get the feeling its not as good as the Joker and no way near on Harley  though happy to finally see a clay face figure or rather build which i will be reviewing very soon .....

 Retails @ £55.00 @ lego.com

PROS = a must for any batman fan , old and young , larger than expected , harley quinn looks amazing and so does joker, 433 pieces of bliss , not a bad buy , great suspension.

CONS = Stickers, inside could have been more detailed, fidgety wheel mech , generic batgirl

VERDICT :

9.0  out of 10

Stop motion build is coming soon -----

Ok that was awesome love the joker low rider but equally as awesome in my opinion is the Arctic roller set  - 709011

305 pieces

2 x small instruction books
3     x internal bags
1    x small sticker sheet
2 x minifigs (batman, penguin )

Penguin, Oswald Cobblepot ... Is up there with the Joker when it comes to Bad Guys, in darker more recent portrayals 1992 Batman returns  he was abandoned by his parents and left in the sewers in gotham , raised by penguins. This being one of my favorite depictions of Oswald ... The designers at lego have not let us down with this next build

The arctic roller is spectacular, the first impressions were , it  looks most like a gotham street car more than any other vehicle .... it huge gold rims -  6 wheels - wow  and is pretty large and definitely worth the price tag!

But it lacks underside structure and its a much faster build than jokers low rider how can it be better or match the low rider ?

with only 305 pieces it considerably cheaper than the joker low rider --

This is how -- firstly it looks amazing .... it look more like it should have been bruce waynes car and alfred should be driving..... Though penguin does have aristocratic roots i have a feeling its would have been more beffiting for Bruce,  infact it does look like the vehicle in lego gotham batman 2 (the game) where bruce pulls up to an event that is sabotaged by the joker ... But regardless nothing is stopping us using as bruce and alfreds car ..... the two peices on the bonnect can be eaily modified and made into anyone vehicle ... for example two face, or maybe even the riddler ...

This what makes this vehicle so great besides the huge wheel arches and the over exaggeration of the head light, i would gladly have my own life sizes arctic roller
at the front you can see the rockets that are triggered by a disguised button at the front
One printer tile which is the button on the bonnet that released the rockets and stickers for the grills and license plates front and back

Inside only space for one character namely the Penguin

305 pieces and i am still puzzled it just goes against the grain,  lack of space inside .. this is all about making this set look like what i would say a classic gotham take on a 1930s car.

Just amazing!

I am really into the penguin figure that comes with this set , his tall hat and closed umbrella look like they are new Parts and all i can think about is how to use this hat on other figs -- simply sweet

Batman seems to be my least favouite of the minifigs obv he is going to be in most sets .... if you want to see a change in batmans then id defo recommend the Bastman movifigs. However its good to see the change with the belt and thinking of new ideas to make batman both funny and cool.

check our search guide and review in the last blog

Pros = This set likability is based purely on design and can be modified to be any characters car without too much effort , headlights are amazing wheels are great pure class!

Cons = No real mechanism , could have fitted more characters in  space for one character inside the vehicle

 Verdict =8.5   out of 10

LEGO BATMAN MOVIE SERIES MINIFIGS - QUICK SEARCH GUIDE / REVIEW

Yo BrickGeekz

How's it going ?

Well finally got round to doing a blog and hopefully this shall be weekly and recurring from now- as it was about time ;)

You can check the live Build here ;)
Live Build Cmf Link .... click here .....

SO this time we shall concentrate on the Lego  Batman Movie Minifigures - all 20, we are used to our usual 16 mini figures in a series - then 18 with the great and now retired Disney Cmf - and these are so so so good ;)

Where to start - Batman is iconic and has been part of modern culture since the very late 30's created by Bob Kane - The caped crusader for me is the best superhero (if a superhero) as we all know Batman has no superpowers... From the loss of his parents by an unknown criminal to his fear of Bats Bruce Wayne's wealth brought him a whole host of demons that he uses to fight Arkham's plethora of iconic Bad guys , Joker, penguin , Killer Croc , bane . Poison ivy , Catwoman , Harley, two face  --- far too man. Batman has seen some very Dark movies and comics to some very light , comical tv episodes from the 60's . And Gotham's take on 40's Chicago, the tall buildings narrow alley ways - cars bustling streets filled with crime and stories of deprivation, gangsters and its undertones - simply superb.

So in true LEGO fashion they are about to release and awesome movie with some Hysterical dialogue, and go down a new route with Batman, and the truth is i can't wait after seeing the trailers and some of the daft outfits that batman has donned, this movie looks brilliant and sure to please adult fans as well as children!
